Causes

The causes of frozen shoulder include:

E
Post stroke
E
Diabetes
E
Hyperthyroidism
E
Cardiovascular diseases
E
Referred pain to shoulder joint

Diagnosis

Radiography(X-ray)- X-ray is usually inconclusive, but may show sclerosis.
MRI- Shows thickened joint capsule
Based on the detailed physical assessment, examination and special tests therapist can understand the present condition and accordingly she/he can plan the treatment.

Treatments

Patient education is essential to reduce the further complication by providing proper rest and limiting the movement on the affected side. If is a 6-month-old (acute) case patient itself can take initial pain management by applying ice, and avoid lying on the affected side. Modalities such as IFT, TENS and Ultrasound are used for pain management. Proper mobilization techniques in manual therapy helps to improve the joint range of motion by breaking the capsular tightness. Home exercises are also recommended to make the patient functionally independent.

Our Musculoskeletal Wellness Program uses Shockwave Therapy (ESWT), which is an advanced modality for the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions and its very effective in frozen shoulder cases. ESWT uses sound waves (high amplitude pulses of mechanical energy) to breakup infected tissues and stimulate the healing process. The energy triggers the regeneration and reparative processes of the bones, tendons and other soft tissues. ESWT is used to treat chronic, sub-acute and acute conditions. After the shockwave session, Cryotherapy is advised to avoid muscle soreness.

In addition, we can employ Pulsed Cell Repair Therapy (PCRT) for the treatment of frozen shoulder, which directs a series of electromagnetic impulses through the injured tissue. Each pulse induces a tiny electrical signal that stimulates cellular repair, and harnesses the body’s own ability to heal itself. This natural signal promotes the body to repair damaged or worn tissues/cartilages and to maintain healthy and proper functioning of the joint.
