Trochanteric/Hip Bursitis
Symptoms
Symptoms of trochanteric/hip bursitis may include:
Pain
Swelling
Warmth
Pain while movement
Unable to lie down on affected side
Lower back pain
Ascending stairs is painful
Causes
The causes of hip bursitis may include:
Diagnosis
With detailed history, physical examination, assessment and special tests the therapist can diagnose the condition. Assessment includes range of motion, tenderness, special tests, muscle tests and gait analysis.
Treatments
Physical therapy can improve patient’s flexibility, range and muscle strength. The initial phase of treatment is to reduce the inflammation and pain and for that we can apply cryotherapy. IFT, US and TENS are the modalities for pain management.
Our Musculoskeletal Wellness Program incorporated the use of Shockwave Therapy (ESWT), which is an advanced modality for the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions and its very effective in trochanteric/hip bursitis. ESWT uses sound waves (high amplitude pulses of mechanical energy) to breakup infected tissues and stimulate the healing process. The energy triggers the regeneration and reparative processes of the bones, tendons and other soft tissues. ESWT is used to treat chronic, sub-acute and acute conditions. After the shockwave session, Cryotherapy is advised to avoid muscle soreness.
Pulsed Cell Repair Therapy (PCRT) is another advanced modality that can be used for the treatment of trochanteric/hip bursitis. PCRT directs a series of electromagnetic impulses through injured tissue. Each pulse induces a tiny electrical signal that stimulates cellular repair, and harnesses the body’s own ability to heal itself. This natural signal promotes the body to repair damaged or worn bone/tissues/cartilages and to maintain healthy and proper functioning of the joint.
